Ono Hawaiian BBQ - San Jose, California

I had Hawaiian BBQ before but first time at Ono. Generally, I had a good experience and I'm open to come back.

I got
- A plate of Hawaiian BBQ mix (which is a mix of beef, pork and chicken). It comes with rice & macaroni salad. It's pretty good. I like the flavors of all the meat. I like pork most, then chicken then beef. I like cabbage too but I wish it has less oil.
- A side of salad: I like the dressing that comes with the salad, helps balance the meal.
- Young coconut: decent. You can't use the plastic spoon to scoop out the meat but if you go home and use a silver spoon, you can. It looks thick but it's surprisingly not hard. It's probably still better if it's a little bit thinner though.

My friend got the plate with seafood mix which came with fried shrimps, fried white fish and chicken. I tried it and the plate I got was better.

Service was good. The receptionist was friendly and willing to answer all of my questions.

Ordered the Island Spice Grilled Fish because of the promotion which meant I only paid $7 + tax. The taste was good as usual. The restaurant was clean. The only complaint I would have is I was sitting down at a table waiting for my food to finish cooking, and when it was ready, they refused to bring the food to me despite me being the only person in the restaurant. This is not expected but for a 5 star rating I would expect them to do that when they can clearly see I was sitting down. I wish they gave the food in a Eat-In option when ordering through the mobile app.

Ordered ahead and was set to pick up my order around lunch time.
I get there and was told it'd be another 5 minutes, which was fair it was near lunch time.
A solid 10+ minutes go by and I again ask if it's ready soon and apparently my order was just sitting behind the counter because the cashier misread my name. Suffice to say the food at that point was warm at best and getting soggy.

Flavors aren't bad at all but it could of been a lot better if I wasn't made to wait an extra who knows how long since the food ready.

BIG portions and the price was great. Got rice, mac and cheese, chicken katsu and bbq chicken all in one box and it tasted pretty good. The chicken katsu was definitely the best, bbq chicken definitely needed the sauces you find by like the drink machine and even then the katsu stole the show. Would go again.

Food: I went with delivery since I was unable to leave work. ordered the Chicken mix plate with Chicken Katsu & Teriyaki Chicken. I also ordered Spam Masubi to try. I personally wasn’t impressed. The Chicken Katsu was rather dry, the Teriyaki Chicken was great, and the Spam Masubi was lackluster. It missed the mark on flavorful. The side veggies offered a heap of cabbage with 2 small broccoli. The macaroni salad tasted like biting into an onion. If this is your thing, then this is definitely for you, but it all missed the mark for my tastebuds.

It was very good, between 3 1/2 to 4 stars. The portion was generous, I couldn't finish my plate. About $10 per order without drink.

I loved this place. I’ve been in many Onos and always and they never let me down. I ordered chicken curry-Good size, taste, maybe too spicy but overall very good!

wow I'm sad it took a pandemic for me to find this place.

the aloha plate comes with plenty of veggies which makes me feel a bit better about scarfing down sauced or fried breaded chicken. the veggies are also pretty good. some edamame bits in there and not too heavy on the dressing.

proteins are delicious too. love the katsu.

went today and my plate earned me a free smaller plate for some promo! (til may 02 2020 I think)
